Coffee Value Chain Development Project: Working with veterans...

Under the “European Union support to the competitiveness of quality coffee in Nepal”, Good Neighbors International (GNI) Nepal implemented  Coffee Value Chain Development Project (CVCDP) in partnership with Beautiful Coffee Nepal (BeaCoN) in Kaski, Syangja, Gulmi, and Palpa districts of western Nepal and in coordination with 60 Primary Coffee Cooperatives (PCCs) at village level and Union of Coffee Cooperatives at the district level. This two-year-long Project started in March 2017 and ended in June 2019. The primary target group includes 3000 small-holder coffee farmers associated with Primary Coffee Cooperatives (PCCs) and the secondary target group includes institutions and market actors involved in the production, processing, and marketing of coffee in Nepal.  At the national level, the Project also aims at institutional strengthening of the National Tea and Coffee Development Board (NTCDB) through the establishment of a comprehensive information management system. With the aim of making small-scale coffee farming competitive, thereby, increasing the income of associated coffee farmers, this project intends to increase coffee production in targeted areas by expanding plantations and boosting productivity in suitable ecological niches. I am proud to be a part of the CVCDP team representing GNI Nepal in the capacity of Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. I contributed to the team mainly for Coordination within GNI Nepal to ensure accurately, thorough, and useful monitoring and reporting of project activities and impacts, both internally and externally, spearhead the development of M&E systems with standard procedures and process, provide technical guidance to programs staff in incorporating appropriate M&E systems into projects/programs, routinely perform quality control checks of M&E work, overseeing the recording and reporting of progress and performance of the operation compared to targets, preparation of M & E plan, lead the Coffee Management Information System (MIS) in coordination with National Tea and Coffee Development Board.

These two years I not only contributed to M and E but gained organizational expertise and got a chance to work with experienced professionals on the value chain, food security, cooperative strengthening, MIS, and so on.
